Tieguanyin is a partially fermented tea characterized by medium fermentation and heavy roasting. Due to this intensive roasting process, it is classified as a hemispherically rolled oolong tea featuring a distinctive charcoal-roasted aroma.
The tea leaves are semi-spherical or may appear slightly fragmented, showing a deep brown to grayish-black color. It brews into a brilliant, translucent golden-orange or brownish-amber liquor. The aroma carries a bold, intense charcoal-roasted fragrance coupled with a subtle fruit acidity—often referred to by tea connoisseurs as a "metallic/rusty accent" or the signature "Guanyin Rhyme" (Guanyin Yun). The body is robust and full, carrying a hint of pleasant bitterness, and concludes with a rich, long-lasting roasted aftertaste.
